This issue does not require a marketing plan.

It requires a timer.

Set it for 30 minutes. Complete the five actions below in order. Do not open another article, compare software, redesign your logo, or spend 20 minutes choosing a photograph.

The goal is movement—not perfection.

🔬 TODAY'S FIELD TEST

MINUTES 0–6: PUBLISH ONE GOOGLE BUSINESS PROFILE UPDATE

Open your Google Business Profile and add one recent, original photo.

It could show:

  • a completed project

  • work in progress

  • a new product

  • your office, store, truck, or equipment

  • an employee doing real work

  • something customers usually do not get to see

Now add three short sentences:

❝

What happened: This week, we [completed, added, fixed, created, or changed something].
Why it mattered: The important part was [one useful detail].
What customers should know: If you are dealing with [situation], [practical next step].

Do not make it sound like an advertisement. Show the work and explain why it matters.

Google Business Profile posts can include text, photos, videos, offers, events, and action buttons. They appear directly on Google Search and Maps, where potential customers may already be looking for a business like yours. Google's posting instructions →

Time is up. Publish it.

MINUTES 6–11: ASK ONE HAPPY CUSTOMER FOR A REVIEW

Think of one customer who recently thanked you, complimented the work, returned for another purchase, or referred someone to you.

Send this:

❝

Hi [Name], thank you again for choosing us for [service or product]. If you were happy with your experience, would you mind leaving us a short Google review? It helps other people know what to expect when choosing a business like ours. Here is the link: [direct review link]. Thank you—I really appreciate it.

Ask personally. Include the direct link. Do not offer a reward or tell the customer what rating to leave.

One sincere request is better than spending another month thinking about building an elaborate review system.

Send it and move on.

MINUTES 11–17: ANSWER ONE REAL QUESTION ON REDDIT

Search Reddit for a question related to your industry, service, or customers.

Try searches such as:

  • [service] + worth it

  • [problem] + what should I do

  • best [type of business] + [city]

  • how much should [service] cost

  • what should I ask before hiring [professional]

Open one relevant discussion and read the community rules before participating.

If you have a genuinely useful answer, give it. Explain what the person should consider, what mistakes to avoid, or what first step to take. Do not force in your company name, paste the same response into several communities, or add a link when the rules prohibit promotion.

Reddit is built around individual communities, and each one can establish its own standards. Repeated or unsolicited promotion can also be treated as spam. Review Reddit's spam guidance →

If you cannot appropriately comment, do this instead: copy the question into your content-idea list. Record a 30-second answer later and publish it on your own channel.

Either way, the customer has just told you what content to create.

Help first. Promote only when appropriate.

MINUTES 17–23: LEAVE THREE USEFUL LOCAL COMMENTS ON SOCIAL MEDIA

Use your business social media account to visit the pages of three local organizations (Facebook, Instagram, X, Linkedin):

  • a neighboring business

  • a chamber of commerce

  • a local event

  • a community organization

  • a potential referral partner

  • a business serving the same customers without competing with you

Leave a specific, natural comment on one recent post from each.

Avoid empty comments such as “Great post!” or a row of fire emojis.

Try:

❝

This is a great addition to the neighborhood. The new space looks fantastic.

❝

That deadline catches a lot of people by surprise. Thanks for putting the reminder out early.

❝

We hear this question from customers too. Your explanation of [specific point] is especially helpful.

You are not trying to hijack someone else's audience. You are becoming a recognizable, constructive participant in the local business community.

Three thoughtful comments. Then stop.

MINUTES 23–30: RECONNECT WITH ONE PAST CUSTOMER

Choose one customer you have not spoken with recently and send a personal check-in.

❝

Hi [Name], I was thinking about the work we did for you last year and wanted to see how everything has been going. If you have any questions about [service or product] or need anything related to it, feel free to reach out.

For a business with repeat purchases, try:

❝

Hi [Name], I wanted to check in and see how [product or prior service] has been working for you. We recently [added, changed, or learned something relevant], and I thought it might be useful to you. Let me know if you would like the details.

Do not turn the message into a generic sales blast. The advantage of a small business is that you can communicate like a person who remembers the customer—not a corporation feeding names into an automated sequence.

That one check-in could produce a repeat purchase, referral, review, useful conversation, or simply renewed awareness.

Press send. Your 30 minutes are complete.

GOOD JOB! Pat yourself on the back!

📡 SIGNAL CHECK

Guerrilla marketing is sometimes mistaken for stunts, costumes, sidewalk chalk, or something designed to “go viral.”

The useful version is much less theatrical.

It is finding overlooked ways to earn attention without waiting for a large budget:

  • showing current work where local customers search

  • asking a satisfied customer to share an experience

  • answering a question where people are already discussing the problem

  • becoming visible in the local business community

  • reconnecting with someone who already trusts you

None of these actions will transform a business by itself. Together, repeated regularly, they create more chances to be found, remembered, recommended, and contacted.

Stop typing what you could say in 10 seconds.

Wispr Flow turns your voice into clean, professional text inside any app. Emails, Slack, client updates — speak once, send without editing. 4x faster than typing.

🧪 THE EXPERIMENT: KEEP SCORE FOR SEVEN DAYS

Create a note called 30-Minute Marketing Blitz and record today's activity:

  • Google update published: Yes / No

  • Review request sent: Yes / No

  • Reddit question answered or saved: Yes / No

  • Useful local comments posted: 0 / 1 / 2 / 3

  • Past customer contacted: Yes / No

Then note any result during the next seven days:

  • profile views or website visits

  • new review

  • response to a comment

  • customer reply

  • referral

  • inquiry, booking, or sale

You are not trying to prove that one action “worked” after a single week. You are discovering which actions feel natural, produce conversations, and deserve a permanent place in your routine.

If the sprint creates even one useful response, keep repeating it!

🎯 BEFORE YOU CLOSE THIS EMAIL

Do not save this issue for later.

Set a 30-minute timer and begin with the Google Business Profile post. When the timer ends, reply and tell me how many of the five actions you completed—and where you got stuck.

Bottom line: A small business does not always need a bigger marketing budget. Sometimes it needs 30 focused minutes and the willingness to press Publish, Comment, and Send.
